The medical field is among the most competitive professional domains worldwide. Every year medical applicants far exceed the total number of seats, even in developed nations like the United States and Canada. According to a recent report by the AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges), the average acceptance rate in the United States stands at 43%, even after a 17% increase in applicants without any increase in seats. Hence, getting accepted into top-notch medical schools in the United States or Canada is more challenging than ever for international students.

In such a scenario, Caribbean med school offers the opportunity with a higher acceptance rate to pursue a high-quality medical education. Thus, getting accepted into a Caribbean medical school is much easier than getting into a medical school located in any academically leading country. The application and admission process of the Caribbean medical school is similar to that of the US and Canada-based medical schools. Moreover, medical aspirants from around the globe are becoming increasingly interested in pursuing medical education in the Caribbean because of the average GPA and MCAT requirements.

Requirements to enter a Caribbean medical school

The admission criteria for medical schools differ among schools, but here are some of the standard requirements for admission to medical school:

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant major
  • An acceptable GPA score in the bachelor’s or undergraduate degree
  • Research experience
  • A good MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) score
  • Clinical and volunteer experience in a clinical setting
  • Language proficiency proof through TOEFL or IELTS score
  • Letters of recommendation

These are common requirements for an applicant to secure admission to a top-grade accredited Caribbean medical school.

Getting into a Caribbean medical school is more accessible, offers many advantages, and transforms a student into an excellent medical professional. Another factor that makes admission to a Caribbean medical school easier is the rolling admission. The island medical schools accept students twice or thrice a year, usually around January/February, May, and August/September.

Apart from rolling admission, Caribbean medical schools are also cost-effective. The cost of studying medicine in the Caribbean is lesser than in medical schools in the US and Canada, which attracts students with financial constraints. Interestingly, the island med schools also offer financial assistance through loans and scholarships. Access to federal loans and other financial aid allows students to manage their debts well and invest more time developing themselves as medical professionals.

Conclusion

The top-notch medical schools in the Caribbean have solid ties to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), which means that a student can complete medical schooling in the Caribbean and then be matched to a US residency program. Hence an International Medical Graduate(IMG) from an accredited Caribbean medical school can establish their medical career even in the US and Canada after fulfilling the licensing requirements by passing the USMLE examination.

So now that you know getting into Caribbean medical school is easier and offers many opportunities for a successful medical career. Log on to our website to learn more about the Caribbean medical school’s MD program!

For individuals who love animals and enjoy science, a career as a veterinarian can be a perfect choice. Veterinarians are professionals with a doctorate in veterinary medicine, where they learn how to care for a variety of animals. A DVM or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program is the finest route to becoming a trained and qualified veterinarian.

Getting into veterinary schools might be a daunting task with constantly rising competition. But, a Caribbean vet school can be an ideal destination with a higher acceptance rate. They also provide a high-quality DVM program with exceptional clinical training and preparation for the standardized NAVLE(North American Veterinary Licensing Examination) examination. So once you get admission to a well-recognized vet school, you must do your best to make the most out of your education. But are you worried about how to do that? We’ve compiled the best tips and tricks to help you succeed in veterinary medicine.

Attend lectures regularly

This might seem an obvious tip, but students get tempted to skip lectures now and then. Attending classes regularly allows students to follow the right path and learn the theories in an order that can help them later during their clinical years. The volume of information you can learn in the classroom of a vet school is massive. Hence, attending classes can help you sort out important topics from the examination point of view.

Approach study as a job

A vet school DVM program is a marathon, not a sprint. Students might get away with their undergraduate through a cramming approach, but applying the same in vet school might not give you the desired result. The best approach during vet school can be to consider the advanced study as a job, blocking 8 am-5 pm on weekdays for school. A regular study routine can help you retain the information crucial to a successful medical career.

Divide things into manageable chunks

The studies in vet school, along with other tasks, might become unmanageable. So it could be best to break things into small and more manageable chunks. Students can also divide their syllabus to simplify the often difficult-to-learn topics.

Acquire active learning techniques

Active learning is a technique where students can interact with the information in an innovative and meaningful way to study and retain the information. Techniques in active learning are making a summary, a comparison table, or mindmaps that are visually appealing and easy to remember.

Prioritize clinical rotations

Clinical rotations are an integral element of the DVM program. The final year of the vet schools involves clinical rotations that offer a transition as students will gain hands-on experience and learn more about the veterinary clinical experience. Completing clinical rotations requires a balance of self-care, time management, and willingness to learn. The successful completion of the clinical rotations program can eventually gain you a veterinary medical degree.

Connect with your peers

Peer-assisted learning is a great way to get advice from people who have recently been through the course and are aware of the challenges and ways to sail through it. Connecting with your senior peers can give you insight into the vet school journey. Their first-hand experience of undergoing clinical rotations can give you ideas to make the most out of the valuable clinical rotations.

Make time for self-care

Self-care should be an integral part of your vet school journey. The vet school students must get enough sleep, eat well, exercise, and relax. Getting enough rest and sleep can help your brain and body function well and retain a massive amount of information while physical strength to deal with animals.

If veterinary medicine interests you, a DVM program can empower you to establish a fulfilling career as a veterinarian. Sign in now to learn more about the program!

If you are about to enrol your child into daycare, you may be wondering what the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) is about and whether you’ll be entitled to it. The purpose of the child care subsidy is to make gold coast childcare more affordable for Australian families. We’ve compiled this post to share everything you need to know about the child care subsidy.

What is the child care subsidy?

The Child Care Subsidy (CCS) is an incentive formed by the Australian Government to help with the cost of childcare fees. It makes child care more accessible to families.

The child care subsidy is paid to your childcare provider and they pass the subsidy on to you at a discounted rate. You pay the gap fee which is the difference between the full daycare fee and the subsidy.

Why you should know what child care subsidy is

Enrolling your child into daycare can be an overwhelming process, and knowing what is involved and the costs associated can help make this transition much easier for you as a caregiver or parent. You can work out how many days you can enrol your child per week based on the weekly fees and your budget.

How do I know if I’m eligible for the child care subsidy or not?

To be eligible for the child care subsidy, you or your partner must meet all of the following:

  1. You or your partner must be living in Australia
  2. Have your child for at least 14% of the time or 2 nights per fortnight
  3. Are liable to pay fees for care at an approved childcare

Additionally, to be eligible, your child must meet the following two requirements:

  1. They must meet immunisation requirements
  2. Not be attending a secondary school

How much will I have to pay?

How much you will pay for your child to attend daycare will depend on several factors, some of these include how much you and/or your partner (if you have one) earn, whether you have other children in childcare or not and how many hours of work or activity the parents have each week.

  1. Here are some of the recognised activities that can determine the total number of hours of child care subsidy you will be entitled to:
  2. Paid work, including self-employment
  3. Paid or unpaid leave, including parental or maternity leave
  4. Studying via an approved course
  5. Volunteer work
  6. Unpaid work experience or an internship
  7. Actively looking for work
  8. Starting up a business

How does it work if I have more than one child in care?

If you have more than one child attending daycare, you may be eligible for a higher subsidy for additional children if you earn less than $354,305 or you have more than one child in childcare under the age of 5.

Families with more than one child in care may be eligible for a higher subsidy for their second child and younger children.

In most instances, the standard child care subsidy rate applies to the eldest child and subsequent children may be eligible for a 30% higher subsidy or more.

If you’d like to know more about the child care subsidy and what you may be eligible for, head to the services Australia website: Services Australia

Utilise the child care subsidy calculator

On the Services Australia website, you’ll find a payment and service finder, and you can use this to estimate how much CCS you may be entitled to.

The calculator will be looking for the following information:

  1. Your family’s income
  2. The hours of activity that you do as well as your partner
  3. The hourly rate cap. This is determined by your child’s age and the type of approved child care you have chosen

Preschool Exemption Program

If you have a child that is enrolled in a Government Approved Preschool or Kindergarten program, the child care subsidy exemption may be available for pre-school-age children who are eligible for 24 hours per fortnight subsidy. This means that your child may be able to access 36 hours per fortnight. The following conditions apply:

  1. The child must be of preschool age and be attending centre-based childcare or an early education program.
  2. The child would otherwise be entitled to less than 36 hours of care per fortnight.

How to apply for the Child Care Subsidy

  1. Before you can apply for the child care subsidy, you will need to create a MyGov account.
  2. Once you have done this, you can then sign in to MyGov and go to the Centrelink tab.
  3. After this, you’ll need to head to the payments and claims section on the drop-down menu. From here, you click on the ‘make a claim’ tab.
  4. Next, click on the ‘Families’ button and then ‘Get Started’.
  5. You will need to answer all the questions here and submit any supporting documents.
  6. Next, you can submit your claim.
  7. If you like, you can track the progress of your claim via your account.

Ready to enrol your child in daycare?

We hope this post has given you an idea of what the child care subsidy is and how it works. It may seem complex however, once you know the basics, it becomes much more straightforward to understand.
